How does cedar compare to treated lumber?
The dimensional stability of cedar is a factor of its light weight and cell structure. It does not warp or twist and holds fasteners tight. The heavy grain in treated wood can cause the wood to twist, bow, curl, warp or split. This makes treated wood a bad choice for strutures that have long free spans without support to stop the distortion.
How does cedar compare to aluminum pergolas or patio covers?
Cedar is stronger, will span farther, looks better, ages better, and cost far less. Cedar can be stained or painted in an unlimited number of choices or left unfinihsed to wheather to a rustic silver-gray appearance.
What makes cedar the "green choice"?
Wood is the world's only renewable building material and forest regeneration helps us all breath easier. Harvesting wood is less intrusive and requires only a fraction of the energy used to produce materials such as aluminum and steel.
